Frequently Asked Questions

  • The Consultation Call is an opportunity to introduce ourselves and to determine whether we will be a good fit. During the call, I’ll ask a few questions about your goals for therapy and a little about what’s brought you to request counseling. I’ll let you know what it’s like to work with me and answer any questions you might have. Depending on what transpires during the call, we might schedule our first session, or I will provide you with referrals for therapist(s) who might better suit your needs.

  • Therapy sessions typically last 50-60 minutes. Sessions usually begin with you sharing anything that has come up as a concern or by sharing a new insight that has been brought to your awareness over the recent past. Then, we will work together to develop solutions to the problems that brought you into therapy. We will close the session by reflecting on and choosing effective ways to respond to relationship patterns and stress reduction strategies.

  • Generally, we begin therapy with sessions occurring once per week. This gives enough time between sessions to process and deepen any new awareness from the last session without too much time to lapse into old patterns. Clients often see significant improvement within 4-10 weeks. This varies greatly depending on living situation, natural support at home, and trauma history.

  • I do offer a limited number of evening sessions. I do not offer weekend sessions.

  • Weekly sessions to start are advised, given the newness of the therapeutic relationship and the need for support as you begin to let go of old patterns and behaviors. As time passes, we might decide to move to sessions every 2 weeks or every 3 weeks as a touchstone during the later stages of therapy.

If finances are a barrier to participating in weekly therapy, let’s talk.
